The FIFA series has long been known for its practical graphics.
But for some men and women, they’re not realistic enough.
For years, a growing number on the FIFA community have taken it in own hands to boost EA Sports’ series. And the results are usually breathtaking.
So good, in fact, that even the more mature FIFA games can take on FIFA 17.
The below shot, for example, is taken from FIFA 14.
Enter “Modding Way” - a website that lets skilled gamers upload their unique tweaks, or ‘mods’, to FIFA.
Mods are essentially changes towards game’s original code.
These range from minor upgrades to the graphics - adding much more realistic grass, for example - to completely overhauling core game motion.
Crysis, for example, a first-person shooter that arrived ten years ago, looks better than just about any game of recent years - because of a hugely engaged area of modders.
But it’s not nearly graphics - mods also can take the form involving complete games.
The latest Elder Scrolls sport, Skyrim, features a mod called Enderal.
This completely transforms the action - adding a various story, thousands of hours’ really worth of new dialogue along with updated visuals - all developed by the community.
While FIFA’s changes will not be as drastic, the community has still managed to create some game-changing changes.
For one, there’s a mod that lets you bring in FIFA 17 faces onto FIFA 14. Just take a look what it can to Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade Chamberlain.

There’s even a tune that adds ‘SweetFX’ - which improves the vibrancy in the visuals and adds a lot more detail.
FIFA 15 hasn’t been recently overlooked either.
The ‘RealVision’ mod adds an HDR-effect towards the graphics - improving gambler skin, crowd details and shadows.
FIFA 16 gets even more granular in its tweaks.
‘PostFX’ overhauls the bad weather and lighting, while there’s even a setting to produce the grass more realistic.
Mods can affect everything around the game - from the menu screens to the player models
The downside is a lot of these mods only work on the PC version of the games.
So, surely FIFA 18 mods are beingshown to people there, too?
Well, here’s the kicker.
For all of the actual Frostbite Engine’s brilliance, it’s incredibly hard to modify.
Still, there have been a couple of notable additions in FIFA teen.
One mod, for example, creates a bespoke camera that means that you can see much more player detail.
Some mods affect gameplay - for example adding more camera selections
It’ll be only a matter of their time before the community gets to grips with Frostbite - and as we’ve seen in Battlefield 1, the engine is efficient at some truly breathtaking images.
Could a photo-realistic FIFA be here sooner than FIFA 18? Time will tell.
How much will that cost?
FIFA 18 will price tag around £49. 99 - but offered the demand, some outlets may undercut that.
We expect the cheapest the experience will go for at launch for being around £45.
